Wolsey Hall Oxford

Founded in 1894 and the most complete self-study route: all books are included and posted free in the UK. Registration is £95 per student, with 10% off for a second child. Its example full-time programmes come to £6,245 for 8 IGCSEs and £5,485 for 3 A levels and an AS, both over two years.

Teaching: No live lessons: course books, an online platform and a personal tutor who marks work within 3 to 5 working days. Exams: Not included. Most students sit as private candidates at exam centres; a few Pearson subjects can be sat at home with remote invigilation.
